CD – Music of Paris churches and cathedrals

The CD is a recital of Irena Chřibková, an organist of St. James‘ Basilica who accounts for the Czech top organists and is well known for her merits in the field of organisation (she is a president of the International Organ Festival at St. James‘ Basilica). However, her recital surpasses other solo recitals currently available at numerous CD recordings, which have flooded Czech music market… The CD contains French authors exclusively, generally regarded as „French organ symphonics of Romanticism“. The admirers of Widor, Vierne, Boellmann, Gigout and others will be definitely pleased. Monumental acoustics of St. James‘ Basilica fully suite the character of music and when we forget its present Baroque interior we are among the pillars and rose windows of French Gothic cathedrals. It is unbelievable how Irena Chřibková has mastered the organ registration and has caught the sound of French Romantic organ music. Although St. James‘ organ is the biggest organ in Prague, the instrument is constructed quite differently to French instruments when discussing the sound. Even an expert might consult the brochure containing the organ specification to make sure he is not deluded and he is really listening to St. James‘ organ. It is an advantage of all organists when they know the instrument they play, which is the case of Irena Chřibková. Any other organist, who does not know the instrument so well, would search for long and long hours the registration and colours which Irena Chřibková has used with absolute preciseness and elegance.
