Grand finale of 36th International Organ Festival

The opening of the finale concert of the festival was, as usual, a top solo recital in which Irena Chřibková played Tournemiere’s Chorale Improvisations Victimae paschali laudes, Albright’s Sweet Sixteenths and Jongen’s Sonata Eroica. A various character of the pieces made it possible to the audience to appreciate the range of music and a mastering technique of Ms Chřibková, an organist from Prague, and through all of this to enjoy the rich sound of Engler’s restored instrument. The piece by Albright seemed to catch the attention of the audience most.
In the second part of the concert, Ms Chřibková played Couperin’s Elevation, Dialogue and Recit de Chromhorn. All three pieces were very suggestive and had a character of majestic miniatures. Next, she played, with fabulous lightness, Concert Variations by French composer Joseph Bonnet. The audience paid an earnest attention to the finale of the concert – a composition by Jan Hanuš, who died this year. The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra under František Preisler together with Irena Cřibková played his splendid Concert Symphony(1954), a musically noble piece which exposed not only organ but also presented harp (marvellously played by A.Tomečková) and kettle drums (L. Bilan). The audience cordially applauded and expressed their enjoyment and enrichment by the concert.
