The International Organ Festival

The International Organ Festival traditionally taking place in August and September at St. James´ Basilica in the Old Town of Prague has entered into its second decade. This eminent cultural event organised by the director of the festival and the titular organist of St. James´ Basilica Mrs. Irena Chřibková, held under the auspices of the Prague Archbishop and of the Mayor of the City of Prague and co-organised by the City of Prague, the Society of Friends of St. James Audite Organum and a number of other co-operators is an important part of Prague cultural life. What makes this festival really special is the chance of listening to Czech and world organ music in the full range of all music periods performed by world famous organists. has not attracted so much attention, possibly due to his programme presenting rather popular and light music…… During the final concert, Mrs. Irena Chřibková has marvellously played a large and technically challenging 3rd Symphony in F sharp minor by Louise Vierne. She has also joined the other musicians, mentioned above, in order to perform Vesperae in festo nativitatis Beata Maria Virgine by Petr Eben (being composed following a commission of the Benedict monastery in Montserrat) and Our Father by Leoš Janáček for mixed choir, tenor, harp and organ. All three compositions have magnificently concluded the 11th International Organ Festival not only thanks to the soloists but also thanks to Kuhn mixed choir perfectly prepared by its choirmaster, Mr. Jan Rozehnal.
